2.13 Detroit Vipers - WR Allen Robinson

In the real world: By taking Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson, the Jacksonville Jaguars showed that they plan to move on without their 2012 first-round pick, Justin Blackmon. Robinson can be tough to cover in the red zone, but he may be more of a possession receiver. (Then again, some people said the same about Anquan Boldin 11 years ago, and he's had an extremely productive career for a #2.) Former NFL scout Russ Lande has gone so far as to compare Robinson to the Houston Texans' Andre Johnson. The question is, what weight and speed will he bring to training camp? He ran a disappointing 4.60 40 at the Combine, but after losing 12 pounds, he ran a 4.47 at his Pro Day. He will have to battle Lee, Cecil Shorts, and Ace Sanders for receptions this year, but Shorts (who comes of an injury-marred 2013 season) will become a free agent after 2014.
In the TUFF world: The Vipers certainly feel the Jaguars' pain--both have WR depth issues exacerbated by Blackmon's problems. Detroit had been planning to take a wideout in Round 2 all along, after passing up Marqise Lee in favor of QB Johnny Manziel back in Round 1. Many fantasy football writers put Allen Robinson squarely in the top 10 among rookie wideouts, with some putting him in the top 20 among overall players. As with Latimer and Lee, this is a very good value pick.
Lucky Number 29? If Robinson is a hit, it wouldn't be the first time this franchise found a top-tier wide receiver with the 29th overall pick. The same thing happened in 2005, when they landed Vincent Jackson. Not only that, but Robinson and Jackson went at the exact same spot in their respective NFL Drafts--the 29th pick on the second round (61st overall).
